KOT software: kitchen order tickets from your phone

Stop shouting orders across the pass and stop losing a table's food to a lost slip.

How it works: the counter or the captain takes the order on a phone. The kitchen order ticket goes straight to your kitchen printer, or to a kitchen display screen, with the table or token number, the items, the quantities and any instruction such as no onion. The cook marks it done and the front of house sees it.

What it costs: KOT printing and token generation are on every plan, from Growth at ₹299; the kitchen display and captain mode come with Growth too a month. And because the order is saved on the phone first, the KOT still prints on a Bluetooth printer with no internet.

What the KOT software gives you

Printer or screen

Bluetooth or network thermal printer for paper tickets, or a kitchen display on any phone, tablet or old monitor.

Prints offline

The order is written to the device first, so tickets keep printing on a Bluetooth printer with no internet. Network printers and the kitchen display need a connection.

One order, one ticket

Order IDs are made on the device and accepted once, so a reconnect cannot reprint the same order as a new one.

Free to try

KOT printing and token numbers are on every plan. Kitchen display and captain mode start on Growth at ₹299 a month.

The flow

From the table to the pass

Three steps, no paper handed between people, no order cooked twice.

1. The order is taken

At the counter, or at the table on the captain's own phone. Variants and modifiers are picked as you go, so "half plate, no onion" is on the ticket and not in someone's memory.

2. The KOT reaches the kitchen

Printed on the kitchen thermal printer or shown on the kitchen display, with the table or token number, the time and the instructions. Prices stay off it. The kitchen only needs to cook.

3. Ready, and then billed

The cook marks the ticket done and the front of house sees it. Add a round, fire another KOT, then settle the table with one bill.

KOT or KDS

Paper ticket, screen, or both

Different kitchens want different things. A tandoor section wants paper on a spike. A cloud kitchen wants a screen with a timer.

  • Print to a Bluetooth or network thermal printer in the kitchen.
  • Or run the kitchen display on a spare phone, a tablet or an old monitor. No paper, no consumables.
  • Run both together, a printer for the hot section and a screen at the pass.
  • Token generation for a counter-service queue, so a customer waits by number.

The awkward cases

Extra rounds, changes and cancellations

A KOT system earns its keep on the messy orders, not the simple ones.

  • Add a second round to a seated table and only the new items go to the kitchen.
  • Variants and modifiers travel with the item, so the kitchen sees the exact version ordered.
  • Join tables or move an order, and the tickets follow.
  • Cancellations and wastage are recorded, so what left the kitchen and what was thrown both show up in reports.
  • Split the bill at the end without splitting the kitchen's work.

FAQ

Questions, answered

What is a KOT?
KOT stands for kitchen order ticket. It is the slip the kitchen cooks from: the table or token number, the items, the quantities and any instruction such as no onion or extra spicy. It is not the customer's bill. The bill carries prices and tax, the KOT carries only what the kitchen needs to cook.
Do I need a kitchen printer, or will a screen do?
Either works. A Bluetooth or network thermal printer in the kitchen prints a paper ticket the cook can spike. A kitchen display shows live tickets on a phone, tablet or old monitor, with no paper and no consumables. Many outlets run both, a printer for the hot section and a screen for the pass.
Do KOTs work when the internet is down?
Yes, on a Bluetooth printer. The order is written to the phone first, so the KOT still prints on a Bluetooth printer paired to the billing phone with no internet at all. Network printers and the kitchen display screen need a connection; they catch up when it returns. When the connection returns the orders replay to the server once, each with the ID it was created with, so nothing is billed twice.
Which plan includes KOT software?
KOT printing and token generation are on every plan. The kitchen display and captain mode start on Growth at ₹299 a month per register, which also adds GST tax invoices, QR ordering and higher limits.
