GST billing software for restaurant owners in India

Your customer wants a proper GST bill. Your CA wants a clean invoice series. Here is exactly which plan prints what, before you sign up.

The honest answer first: GST tax invoices in NamastePOS start on the Growth plan at ₹299 a month. E-invoice ready (GSP connection required) starts on Pro at ₹599 a month: NamastePOS produces e-invoice-format documents, and filing them needs a GSP connection that is not live yet. Below we call this "e-invoice format". GST tax fields start on Growth; below that the app prints plain invoices and receipts.

On Growth and above, every bill carries your GSTIN, an unbroken invoice series, HSN per item, and CGST and SGST split out separately (IGST where the supply is inter-state). Tax is calculated on the server, so a discount, a variant or a modifier cannot quietly break the maths.

What GST billing covers on NamastePOS

Tax computed server-side

Prices and tax are re-checked on the server, not trusted from the phone. A tampered price or a stale menu cannot produce a wrong invoice.

HSN per item

Set the HSN code and rate once on the menu item. Every tax invoice carries it, per line.

One invoice series per financial year

Bills you print offline carry a bill number and estimated tax; the GST tax invoice, with its number in your financial-year series, is issued when the order syncs.

Offline, not offline-ish

Orders are written to the phone and replayed on reconnect. Each order carries its own ID, accepted once, so a bill cannot be charged twice.

What a restaurant GST tax invoice has to show

If a customer asks for a GST bill and you hand over a slip with a total on it, that slip is not a tax invoice. These are the fields the document needs.

  • Your restaurant name, address and GSTIN.
  • An invoice number from an unbroken series, and the date.
  • Each item with its HSN code, quantity, rate and taxable value.
  • CGST and SGST shown as separate amounts, or IGST for an inter-state supply.
  • The invoice total, in figures.

Under the composition scheme you do not charge GST at all — you issue a bill of supply instead. Check with your CA which one applies to your outlet. The invoice rules and rate schedules in force are published on the CBIC tax information portal.

When e-invoice starts to matter to you

What NamastePOS does and does not do today: it produces e-invoice-format documents with a placeholder reference (not an IRN). No IRN exists until the invoice is reported to the IRP through a GSP, and NamastePOS is not connected to a GSP/IRP yet, so nothing is filed with the government from here and nothing printed here may be entered in a return as an IRN. Until that connection is live, file through your GSP or the government portal.

E-invoice applies once your turnover crosses the notified threshold, and that threshold has come down year after year. Owners who are near it get caught out mid-year. We do not print the figure here — read the threshold in force, and check whether your own GSTIN has been enabled, on the government e-invoice portal at einvoice1.gst.gov.in.

  • E-invoice format is on the Pro plan at ₹599 a month (filing needs a GSP, not live yet).
  • P&L and balance sheet are on every plan, from Growth up. Advanced adds recurring invoices and up to 3 outlets.
  • Enterprise adds TDS/TCS and bank reconciliation on top.
  • Move up a tier when the threshold reaches you. Billing is monthly, so you are not buying a year in advance.

GST is one part of it. The billing still has to be fast

A compliant invoice is no use if the counter jams at 8pm. The same app that prints your tax invoice runs the whole service.

  • Bill offline. Orders save on the phone and replay on reconnect, with an ID that cannot be charged twice.
  • The phone is the till. No PC, no billing machine, no AMC.
  • KOTs to the kitchen printer on every plan, or to the kitchen display from Growth.
  • Loyalty, wallet, memberships and WhatsApp receipts included, not sold as separate tools.
  • Live sales reports on every plan, including the free one; advanced reports and exports from Growth.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Which plans include GST tax invoices?
GST tax invoices are included from the Growth plan at ₹299 a month or ₹2,999 a year, and on Pro, Advanced and Enterprise above it. Starter prints plain invoices and receipts only, with no GST tax fields. We say it plainly because finding out after you have signed up is worse.
What must a GST tax invoice from a restaurant show?
Your restaurant name, address and GSTIN, an invoice number from an unbroken series, the date, each item with its HSN code, taxable value, the tax rate and the CGST and SGST amounts shown separately (or IGST where the supply is inter-state), and the total. NamastePOS lays out all of this on the Growth plan and above, and works the tax out on the server so a discount or a modifier cannot break the maths.
Does my restaurant need e-invoice?
E-invoice applies once your turnover crosses the threshold notified for your business, and the threshold has been coming down year after year. If you are close to it, plan for it. E-invoice ready (GSP connection required) is on the Pro plan at ₹599 a month. NamastePOS prints e-invoice-format documents; filing them needs a GSP/IRP connection, which is not live yet.
Can I start free and add GST invoicing later?
Yes. Take the 7-day free trial with no card, run your billing, and move to Growth when you need GST tax invoices. Your menu, customers and history stay where they are. Billing is monthly, so there is no annual lock-in to work around.
Is restaurant GST 5% or 18%?
Most standalone restaurants in India charge 5% GST on food and beverage service, split as 2.5% CGST and 2.5% SGST, and cannot claim input tax credit. 18% with input tax credit applies to restaurant service from specified premises, broadly outlets inside hotels above the notified room tariff. Under the composition scheme you charge no GST on the bill and issue a bill of supply. You set the rate and HSN once per menu item in NamastePOS; confirm which bucket you are in with your CA, and read the 5% vs 18% guide.
What is the difference between a GST tax invoice and a bill of supply?
A GST tax invoice is issued by a regular-scheme restaurant and shows GSTIN, HSN per item and the CGST and SGST (or IGST) amounts, because tax is being collected from the guest. A bill of supply is issued by a composition-scheme restaurant and shows no tax lines, because no GST is collected on the bill. Both need an unbroken serial number and the date.
